Marriage Can Be Murder Celebrates 15 Years in Las Vegas!

This week marks the 15th Anniversary of our show! We did write a column as a guest writer for Robin Leach of The Las Vegas Sun last month giving a brief history of our exciting and evolving Vegas run. You can read it here. The guest write-up was a top read for Las Vegans coming in at number 5 for that week.

We are so excited to celebrate the shows amazing milestone. It was noted begrudgingly but good-naturedly by our amazing local entertainment critic Mike Weatherford’s blog in The Las Vegas Review Journal this week. We have many media, social media and live events scheduled for this entire week. Something for everyone! Our award winning comedy dinner show, which runs seven nights a week, will have two live media nights this week and a concierge night at the transformed  D Casino & Hotel our home. We even created and filmed an all cast YouTube video of a cover of the recent hit pop song “All about the Bass” by Meghan Trainor that releases September 24th! There is even a small cameo of the hotels owner Derek Stevens

It was interesting trying to think of where our time would be best spent reaching our fans and potential future audience members this week to announce our celebration. What media would be the most effective? In a town that is saturated with shows and options galore we had to figure out a way to reach our audience. The age range is 7-107! Our brand is interactive comedy who-dunnit theater. Our reach is far and wide and the world is connected as never before but our dilemma was what media would be the most effective for the milestone? Our unanimous answer to that was all of them traditional and modern! So suffice it to say we will be promoting everywhere. Newspaper, Radio, TV, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Google +, Pinterest and YouTube our heads are swimming with the sheer magnitude of it all! We even created a twitter hashtag #MCBM15YEARS. With all of this fanfare and celebration and effort our prayer is that we reach as many as we can with a simple message.  Come try our show and a great big thank you for all who have.

Blog Your Head Off

In recent months we have been privy to graphic and horrific viral images of decapitations and murders via social media. I have also noticed an uptick in elevator brawls. As an actress in a comedy murder mystery production I recognize my hypocrisy in this blog, as we theatrically murder thousands annually. What is the fascination with watching someone get hurt or killed? Have we returned to the historical Roman days of The Coliseum where we sent Christians to their deaths by throwing them into starving lions for sport and pleasure? Thumbs up or thumbs down, the likes for these images and videos have increased with an intensity that is frightening. Where is this blood thirst coming from? Do we really want to live The Hunger Games? I am one of those people that do not want to see these images. When we stage theatrical deaths in our production they are usually silly. Although I know we broker in the macabre we make it as unreal as possible. I am grateful we live in a free country and I understand that with that freedom there will be things I read, hear and see that are not what I want to read, her or see. Can you at least have the decency to post a graphic image warning when uploading these videos? Go ahead and upload your videos and while you at it blog your head off, but please for the love of humanity do not post images or videos of murders and killings and fights unless you are CNN, MSNBC or Fox News, who by the way give us a warning prior to the gruesome stories and footage or images. I don’t want this on my Facebook, Instagram, Google +, Pinterest or in my Twitter feed.  I will unfollow you if you do it! I consider this a form of unethical passive aggressive cyber bullying.

Interactive Theater 2.0

In Las Vegas when you attend a show you are sternly advised against using photography or recording devices of any kind. You are also told to silence your cell phones. The warning is given audibly sometimes in five languages. I switched that over on its head when I decided to include a Facebook Fan page into our show. As an owner/actress & head writer of the show I created and strategically implemented our Facebook Fan Page, it’s debut was on May 4th of 2009. Marriage Can Be Murder is an interactive comedy dinner show that runs seven nights a week at The D Casino. We were the first and are still the only show in Las Vegas to use social media live during our show. We also allow and encourage  photography, recordings and cell phone usage! When I tell the audience that they can use their cell phones and post photos of the show during the show, they often erupt in cheers. I wanted the audience who were playing the murder mystery game to also be involved interactively in real time online. In the beginning there were not many who were playing along but we coaxed and encouraged our guests and we posted clues and awarded points for those that decided to give it a try. We scrolled the Facebook page in the theater for the guests to see during the show. Our goal was to connect with our audience at another level. We designated an actor  backstage that played along with the guests as they interacted virtually. They pulled pictures from audience members Facebook pages added text and used them as clues. When guests saw themselves on the big screens they gravitated to it like monkeys on cupcakes. Now five years later we had to switch from our fan page to a nightly live page to handle the traffic it generates. Our audience members now add some of the best humor to our show with their invaluable input.

Re-entry Into The Blogosphere 2.0

Several years ago, June of 2010 to be exact, I entered the blogosphere and exited shortly thereafter. At the time a friend asked me to blog; She thought I was interesting and that others would be interested in what I had to say. The irony is that I lost interest in the blog. Now that I am taking a class about social media the motivation for this blog has changed. (I have to write one to get a good grade) I am venturing into the blogosphere once again. I am not so Playne Jayne. I will blog about my crazy ADD life. I like interacting with people and nature and have many hobbies.  I am a wife/mother/grandmother/student/actress/comedian/writer/leadership development junkie/avid reader/world traveller/skilled at arms/emcee/internet surfer & pastor.
Originally from Montreal Canada I now live in Henderson Nevada with my husband Eric. We have been married 25 years in a row! I have two adult children and three new grandchildren.

I have enjoyed much success with an interactive Murder Mystery Marriage can be Murder. Voted best dinner show in Las Vegas for 2013 & 2014. I have been emceeing and performing for over 20 years in various venues through out the US. I am an ordained pastor and I enjoy communicating spiritual insight and direction to those who contemplate faith. As of March 9th of 2014 I now also co-pastor with another female pastor a new church plant in Las Vegas. The church is Sin City Church.  I am also writing a book on forgiveness based on my true story. No Future Without  it will be available December 2014.  So as you can see I have a lot of irons in many fires. This blog will attempt to make reader smores out of all of them.
